Well put, Diosa. I don't believe in "God the guy" either, but I do believe there is a divine order to the universe and I share your awe.

I like atheists because they take responsibility for their lives and actions and don't pawn their decisions off on God.

Bookgirl

I believe your divine order and my God are the same thing. We just all choose to interpret it and revere it in the way that makes sense to us.

Bookgirl, when it gets right down to it, I don't really think our ideas of faith and life are nearly as different as they may first appear.

My BA is in Comparative Histories, Ideas and Cultures which meant through college I had to study works on Christianity, the Koran, Buddhism and read from the Bhagavad Gita. I went through a Dali Lama phrase too! I always really enjoyed the similarities between these books and the way individuals choose to live their lives based on certain principles. I am always fascinated by people who have a strong belief in their faith because I need to question everything. I am definitely a “there are ALWAYS two sides to every story” kind of girl. I could never believe totally in anything!!! Even when I am convinced that what I know is true, I love it when someone throws out something to question my own beliefs. While traveling through Australia and Indonesia I learned more about things like the power of universe, the laws of attraction, Reiki and I spent time learning about hare Krishna. The one life changing decision I made while traveling was that if I am going to pray, I am going to pray “to all the gods of the universe”. I feel that if I am going to “speak” to something or someone then I might as well talk to all of them.

I mainly “pray” or “speak” to all the gods of the universe about being a better person, making the right decisions and doing my best. The most important lesson I learned is that every day I want to grow. Two years ago I read the 4 Agreements! They also changed my life. Whatever religion you choose- they all expect followers to study “the word”, “the path”, “to make a confession” or “take a pilgrimage”. I love the fact that the one thing that all of these theories/religions/belief systems have in common is personal growth.
I am definitely interesting in reading The Faith Club!
Great blog Diosa!

I think that most of us want similar things out of life - love, family, happiness, friendship, peace. And religion is supposed to be a vehicle to keep us on a path to these goals. What I don't understand is why so many religions preach that their way is the only way. And it seems to me that there are a large number of religious people who do not agree with that facet of their given religion. You cannot assume that because you know a person is Catholic, Protestant, Hindu, etc. - that you understand their personal faith. Because we all must personalize our faith in a way that works for us. Or at least anyone who is going to spend anytime reflecting on it will.

I've had to take a break from The Faith Club to read our book club book, but I'll definitely get back to it. I'm really enjoying it.
